Preamble

In the national realm of collegiate athletics, it is widely recognized that maintaining a dedicated and enthusiastic group of student fans is beneficial to the athletic program of the University.  In addition, it is widely documented that the overall success of a University’s athletic program is advantageous for the students, faculty, and surrounding community.  Having a comprehensive knowledge of these facts, the students find it necessary to establish a group dedicated to serving the school in a spirited manner.

We, the Flyer Faithful, knowing full well the multiple benefits of an enthusiastic and motivated student cheering section do hereby establish a union dedicated to these objectives.

Red Scare Mission Statement

A group of enthusiastic UD students united in a common cause: to do whatever it takes to show UD pride through support of The University of Dayton’s athletics. Our school is known for its community, and each athletic event provides us with an opportunity to display that unity for all to see.   The unbreakable bond that holds us all together has been forged through years of tradition and athletic excellence. With your help, we will strengthen our reputation as one of the toughest athletic programs in the country, and once again bring recognition to the Flyer Faithful. We are the largest student organization for a reason.

Together our intimidating numbers will strike fear and uncertainty into the hearts of our opponents.

Article I: Name

Section I – The name of this organization is Red Scare.

Article II: Purpose

Section I – Red Scare is a spirit group open to all University of Dayton students.  The primary function of the members will be to promote school spirit, unity, and awareness of athletic activities through visible participation and support of University of Dayton athletic teams.

Section II – Red Scare understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by the University of Dayton’s policies.

Article III: Membership

Section I – Active membership is given to all undergraduate full-time students, as defined by the university, who attend University of Dayton athletic events.

Sign-ups for active membership for Red Scare will be held at the beginning of each academic year and will be announced accordingly.

Section II – Red Scare openly admits students to its membership and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or sexual orientation.

Section III – There are no membership dues.  There is an optional purchase of upgraded ticket vouchers for Men’s Basketball at a rate set forth by the Athletic Department.  Vouchers will be exchanged for tickets based on availability.  Purchase of ticket vouchers also entitles members to a Red Scare t-shirt for the year. Free vouchers are available for those not interested in purchasing upgraded tickets; however, tickets are not guaranteed with these vouchers.

Section IV – Attendance at games, social events, fundraising projects and service activities are highly recommended and extremely encouraged for all University of Dayton students.  There are no service requirements associated with membership into Red Scare. However, there are optional service opportunities throughout the academic school year.

Article IV: Red Scare Student Spirit Point Policy

Section I – Red Scare utilizes the Spirit Point System. This system is designed to bring out an enthusiastic and motivated student cheering section for Flyer athletics.

Section II - The Spirit Point System will affect the distribution of men’s basketball tickets. Spirit Points will be awarded to the registered students who are in attendance at home Flyer Football, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball games.

  • Ten (10) points will be awarded to students who attend the following home games: Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.
  • Twenty (20) points will be awarded to the students who attend the following home games: Football.
  • Thirty (30) points will be awarded to the students who attend the following home games: Women’s Basketball.

Section III - These point increments are subject to change with a notice of five (5) days in advance through the Red Scare email list and udaytonredscare.com. Spirit Points will only increase when there are said changes.

Section IV - Students will register at my.udayton.edu the week prior to the distribution date. The registration will begin at 12:00 a.m. the Monday before the distribution date. Students may register in groups from one to four (1-4). The deadline for online registration is 11:59 p.m. the Thursday before the pickup date. Groups will be assigned a number in line and a pickup time slot by 4:30pm of that Friday. Students who purchased priority ticket vouchers will be the only students able to register in student groups on the spiritpoints.udayton.edu website.

Section V - Group numbers for ticket distribution will be based off the group’s average number of Spirit Points. The groups with the highest average of Spirit Points will receive an earlier pickup time. Group averages will include the week’s points from game attendance at events prior to registration closing. Groups may register at the beginning of the week, attend a game in the middle, and the points from that game will be included in the groups’ average at the end of the week.

Section VI - On the day of ticket pickup, one (1) student must be there to represent their group. This individual must have the ticket vouchers of every registered member of the group, along with his or her student ID. ONLY the student representing the group needs to present a student ID. The student ID number of each group member must be written on each of the proper ticket vouchers. Please ensure ID numbers are written on ALL of the vouchers and the appropriate games vouchers are detached when coming to distribution. The lower arena will be filled first and then moved to the upper arena if the demand for tickets is higher than the actual seats available in the lower arena.

Section VII -Failure to arrive at your group’s assigned pick up time will result in your group receiving tickets at the end of their original time slot. Failure to arrive before the end of your group’s assigned time slot will result in your group receiving their tickets at the end of the next group’s time slot. Failure to arrive before the last designated time slot will result in the loss of the group’s priority status, and they will be able to receive the remaining tickets on a first-come first-serve basis the following business day. Groups who fail to register online for distribution may not pick up tickets until the next business day after the initial distribution.

Section VIII - Those students not willing to purchase the priority ticket vouchers are still eligible for tickets. These students will be allowed to pickup the tickets on the second day of student pickup. Students may bring up to four (4) student IDs and four (4) vouchers. This will allow them to pickup for four (4) student tickets for that particular game. Information about when and where to receive these tickets will be announced accordingly.

The President and other board members running for President may not vote in this situation.

If there is a dispute about a candidate and their position, discussion will take place among the committee. If an agreement cannot be reached, then the committee will vote on the candidate for the specific position with a simple majority to win. This process will be announced to the student body following the selection of the President. Candidates will be assessed upon their professionalism, involvement, experience, and leadership. Candidates will need to fill out a required application and to participate in an informal face-to-face interview with the selection committee. Clause A – The selection committee has the ability to create new positions if a candidate is exception but does not necessarily fit one of the designated positions, or would be better suited in a position that does not currently exist. These positions are not permanent and will last only one-term unless the executive board feels it is necessary to make them a permanent position.
